SUGAR SKULLS
Ingredients:
1.65 pounds of refined sugar
1/2 spoon of tartar cream
1/4 liter of water
To Garnish
2 egg whites
Powder Sugar
Vegetebal Coloring
Aluminum Foil in various colors
Waxed Paper to create bakery cones or bakery bags to decorate
Molds to make the skulls
Instructions:
Put the water on a pot to heat while pouring the sugar and stir until disolved. When boiling, let it no more than 12 to 15 minutes.
Remove from the heat and whip until it changes color to white.
Begin filling up the molds through the hole, after putting them together with rubber bands; when these are filled up, place them face up.
When you can feel the molds are luckwarm and the sugar inside has harden, take the molds, dip them in water and dry them out immediately.
Take out the rubber bands and remove the molds. Put the skulls to dry out on a tray.
For the decorations, make the bakery cones with the waxed paper.
Whip the two egg whites, add powdered sugar until a soft paste is formed, add a few lemon drops as well. Vert this mix in 4 or 5 small recipients and put a few drops of different coloring to each one.
Fill up each bakery cone with one color, cut the tip off making sure you leave a small outlet and garnish the skull with the aluminium paper colors you wish to use.
